In order to do this you must have the following: Charge Beam, Power Bomb, and at leats one other beam ability besides the normal one (Ice Beam, Spaser Beam, Wave Beam, or Plasma Beam). Select ONE of your beams (Note: the normal one will not work), and the Power Bombs. Charge the beam until a "shield" flies around you. Every use will cost 1 Power Bomb.

Ice Beam-Freezes enemies temporarily. When enemies are frozen, they can be used as stepping stones.
Charge Shot-Hold the fire button to charge your shot and make it more powerful. It gets stronger when you get more beams.
Spazer-With this item Samus' gun fires three shots at a time instead of one. This can't be used with the Plasma Beam.
Wave Beam-This item makes your gun fire shots in a wave pattern. It also makes your shots stronger.
Plasma Beam-Samus' gun becomes very powerful when she acquires this item. This item can't be used with the spazer.
Varia Suit-Cuts damage done by enemies in half and protects you from the brutal heat in Norfair.
Gravity Suit-Cuts damage done by enemies to one-fourth and lets you move normally underwater.
Energy Tank-At the beginning of the game Samus can only hold ninety-nine units of energy. When Samus picks up an energy tank she can hold one hundred extra units of energy. There are fourteen energy tanks.
Reserve tank-Stores energy so you can use it later. If you set it to auto it'll refill you when your energy runs out. There are four in all.
High Jump Boots-These boots allow Samus to jump higher than she could before.
Space Jump-With this Samus can jump continuously, which is pretty much like flying.
Speed Booster-This lets you run very fast. When you use it you're invincible and you can use it to break blocks with a Speed Booster icon on them.
Missile-These are useful as weapons and as keys for opening red doors. There are forty-six missile carriers.
Super missile-These are stronger than normal missiles and are useful for opening green doors and blocks with a super missile icon on them. There are ten super missile carriers
Power bombs-These are stronger than normal bombs and can destroy blocks with a power bomb icon. They can also open yellow doors. There are ten power bomb carriers
Grappling Beam-Use it to grab on to blocks with a hole in the middle.
X-Ray Scope-Use it to find secret passages.
Morphing Ball-This allows Samus to turn into a ball.
Bombs-When Samus gets this item she can lay bombs while in her ball form.
Spring Ball-Use this item to jump while in ball form.
Screw Attack-Samus can use this item to attack enemies when she does a spin jump.

First, watch the introduction until your ship lands on Planet Zebes. Go left past a small hole that you need the Maru Mari to pass through. You’ll come to a hole. Go down, ignoring the doors(you can’t do anything in them yet) and go through the door at the bottom. Do this by jumping up, aiming your weapon down and shooting down. This vertical shaft is modeled after the one in the original Metroid(that you have to get out of quickly). Anyway, go to the bottom and go right. Go through the room where the Mother Brain and the Zeebetites used to be and go down the elevator.
Go left to find the Maru Mari(it’s called the Morphing Ball in this game, but Maru Mari is its original name). Go right one room and shoot the blocks so you can go down. Go left to find a missile carrier. Great, now you only have to find 45 more missile carriers! Go back right and then go up past the blocks. Go right to find another missile carrier. Now go all the way back to Crateria.
Now that you have the Maru Mari you can go down the small hole you saw earlier. Once you’re out of the hole that leads to Brinstar go right to get to it. Turn into a ball and go down, then go through the door. In this room you might want to leave the enemies alone until you take care of the red door at the other side of the room. Then you can use the enemies to stock up on missiles until you can carry ten missiles. Now go right and get the bombs. Now you can leave, right? Well, before you can leave a metal door will close, trapping you. After a few seconds the Chozo statue will break open, revealing a living Chozo. He’s pretty angry that you took his bombs, so here’s how to defeat him: Use missiles and shoot at the part of his body that’s glowing(it looks like the glowing area is his stomach). After you shoot him there three or four times his stomach will start leaking fluids. Keep shooting him there until he’s defeated. Now the metal door will begin flashing, meaning you can exit. Now go back left and use bombs to get out of that hole(the one that required the Maru Mari to get in). Go left and use bombs on the wall. go left and you will be going down a slope. You may be tempted to run down the slope, but watch out for enemies on the slope. At the end of this room there is an energy tank waiting in plain view. Grab it and continue left. In this room use missiles on the Zebesians so you can go down. Now you have a choice of going left or right. Go left until you reach an elevator. Go down the elevator to enter Brinstar.
Go down and go through the first door on the left. Keep going until you get the map of Brinstar. Go back right, to the vertical shaft. Go down as far as you can go. If you’re low on missiles you can go left to find a missile recharge. If you’ve got a decent amount of missiles(or after your missiles are recharged) go right and you will come to a dead-end. Bomb the wall to open a secret passage that will allow you to continue right. Keep on going right until you are in a vertical shaft. Go up to the top of the vertical shaft. To the left there is a secret passage that leads to a save point. Save if you want, then go right. Defeat all of the enemies in this room, then go right to find a metal door in the ceiling. It’s flashing now that you’ve defeated all the enemies, so go up to face Brinstar’s Mini-Boss, the Spore Spawn. Go to the left side of the room(or the right side of the room-it doesn’t matter which), on the raised platform. As long as you stay in a ball, the Spore Spawn can’t hit you. Whenever the Spore Spawn is on the other side of the room stand up and shoot the little spores, then quickly turn into a ball again. Every once in a while the Spore Spawn will open up to take a look around(at least that’s what I think he is doing). When he does that, shoot a missile at his center. If you hit him he’ll close and start moving again. Keep repeating this pattern until he’s defeated. He’ll keep getting faster as you get closer to defeating him, so be careful. After he’s gone jump on top of him and get the power-ups he left behind. Next go up and go through the door on the right. In this room go right until you see an air hole. Usually enemies fly out of the air hole, but this one’s empty. Step on it and you will down a hole. At the bottom of the hole is your first super missile. Grab it and go left. Use a super missile on the green door and continue left. Now you’ll see a small hole. Use a super missile to open the hole. Turn into a ball and go left. Now go down to get a missile carrier. Near the missile carrier you should see a wall with a small hole in it. Use bombs on the corner in the left side of the wall to open a secret passage. Go through the secret passage to find the Charge Shot. Now go back up through the secret passage and go through the small hole in the wall. Keep going right and you’ll be in a room with several stair-like drops. You’ll notice several air holes that enemies fly out of. However, one of them doesn’t contain enemies. It contains a missile carrier. To get it, jump towards the wall on the right, then use the wall jump and keep holding right. Roll into a ball and go to the right to get the missile carrier. If you don’t know how to do the wall jump, here’s how you do it: make Samus do a spinning jump so she’s touching a wall. At the height jump(just as she’s starting to go back down) press the A button(or whatever button you use to jump) and hold the control pad in the opposite direction of the wall. You have to press the buttons at the exact same time or it won’t work. This takes practice, so be patient. Keep going right until you reach a door. In the next room take the path on the top and run across the disappearing rocks to get across. Go through the door and continue right. You’ll come to a steel barricade that keeps you from going further. Shoot the blue light to make it open and continue right. You’ll be in a vertical shaft where it’s playing different background music. Go down until you see a yellow door. Shoot the ground to open a secret passage that leads further down. At the bottom of this vertical shaft go left if you need an energy refill. If you’re fine, go right. In the next room just go right and go through the door. In this room you’ll notice a block in the upper-left corner that looks different from the others. Shoot it to reveal(you guessed it) a secret passage. Use the wall jump to go up. Anyway, after doing the wall jump and you’re on the ledge, use bombs to continue right. You’ll find the Spazer. Go back through the secret passage and go right. Eventually you’ll arrive at the elevator that leads to Norfair. There’s a secret passage in the lower-right corner of this room that leads to Kraid. You need super missiles to go through the secret passage, but you need the Jump Boots to continue. You don’t have them yet, so just go down the elevator to enter Norfair.
In Norfair, go as far down as you can without revealing any secret passages. Go left to find an energy tank. After you get the energy tank step on any of the blocks to the left of the energy tank and you will fall through the floor. Roll into a ball and go left. Keep on going left until you see a door. Go through it and you will see a Chozo statue. To get past the wall that’s blocking him, shoot the top of the wall. A hole will open up(if it’s not big enough keep shooting the wall until it is) that will allow you to reach the Chozo statue, which holds the Jump Boots. After you get them go back right and use your new Jump Boots to go up. You can find another missile carrier up there, as well as the way out of this room. Before you can go out, however, you have to defeat one Nova. After he’s defeated the metal door will begin blinking and you can go out of this room. Go back up and take the elevator back to Brinstar. In the elevator room use super missiles on the lower-right corner to open a secret passage. With the Jump Boots you can jump up to the platform with the stone monster on it(don’t worry, he can’t hurt you). Walk through the mouth of the monster and go through the door. Shoot the floor to open a hole that will let you go down. You should see a metal door. You can’t open it yet, so use bombs in the lower-right corner and go right. Go up through the door and defeat all the enemies in the room. Close to the center of the room you should see a large crack in the floor. Bomb it to unveil a secret passage. Go right, defeat all the Zebesians and continue right. You’ll notice several green horns flying at you. Keep going right and you’ll see it’s Kraid! No, wait a minute... this is only Fake Kraid. Use two missiles on him to defeat him. go right. If you’re low on energy and/or missiles, you can shoot the upper-left corner in this room to find a secret passage that leads to an energy refill and a missile refill. If you’re fine or after you’ve refilled your energy and missiles, continue right to find what’s left of the last guy who tried to fight Kraid. You’ll also see something on the door that leads to Kraid. When its eye opens, shoot it in the eye with three missiles or one super missile. Once he’s gone, go through the door to face Kraid.
KRAID
Once you enter Kraid’s room a metal door will slam shut. Kraid will rise out of the ground, about ten times bigger than he was in the original Metroid. Jump up on one of the ledges, avoiding Kraid’s horns. Use your beam on Kraid’s head and he’ll open his mouth. Fire a super missile in his mouth and it’ll close. Do this three more times and Kraid will be defeated. Go right to get the Varia Suit. From the room with the Varia in it, go left four rooms. Go up through the secret passage and go left. Go down through the door and go left. Use bombs to continue left and you will see that the metal door you couldn’t get into earlier is flashing. Go left and defeat all of the enemies in the room. Shoot the ceiling, the walls and the floor until you find an energy tank in this room. Now go back to the elevator to Norfair and enter Norfair.
Now that you have the Varia you can safely explore Norfair. Go through the first door on the right. Shoot the floor in this room to go down, then go right. Go up and go through the door on the right. In this room you can find a missile carrier, but it’s hidden in the lava. Use your gun to shoot the area of this room that’s submerged in the lava. When you find it, quickly roll into a ball and get it, then get out as quickly as you can. Next go through the door on the right. Keep going right in the next room until you’re in another room. This room is much larger than the previous room. Go to the right as far as you can and shoot the gray blocks. This will open a secret passage. Keep shooting blocks as you go down and you’ll be in a small chamber with a red Ripper. Go to the left a little to find a missile carrier. Go back up through the secret passage that you used to get to the missile carrier. Go back to the door that you used to get into this room but don’t go through it. See those gray blocks(not the ones you shot earlier)? Shoot them to open another secret passage. Roll into a ball and go through the tunnel, but watch out for enemies. Try to use bombs on them whenever they come close to you. When you’re out of the tunnel go down through the door. Go the bottom of the vertical shaft and go right. Keep going right as far you can and you’ll be in a vertical shaft. Go to the top of the vertical shaft and proceed left. Stop going left when you’re in another vertical shaft. Climb to the top of the shaft and go through the door on the left. Be careful not to fall in this room. Go up and go through the door on the right. In this room, run to the right so you won’t fall through the floor. Keep going until you arrive at the door. Don’t go in yet. Instead, shoot the ceiling in this area until you find a missile carrier. Now go right to find the Speed Boosters. As soon as you get the speed boosters, lava will start to rise. Quickly go back left and use the Speed Boosters to get out of this room. Go back to the elevator that leads out of Norfair but don’t use it. Instead go left and use the Speed Boosters to get past the barricades. Go through the door on the left. Go left through another door. Go up(be careful of the monsters on the wall) until you’re at the top. Don’t go through the door on the right, but shoot the ground that’s very close to the door to open a secret passage. Turn into a ball and drop down the secret passage. Go through the small hole on the right to find the Ice Beam. Go back left and go to the top of the vertical shaft again. This time go through the door on the right and go down. Use the Maru Mari to go right, past the barricades. Go back through the door on the right and use the elevator to exit Norfair.
Now that you have the Ice Beam, go left until you reach a vertical shaft. If your energy’s low, go left to get it refilled. If you’re fine/after your energy’s full, shoot the Rippers above you and use them to go up. Keep on going up until you get to more Rippers. Do the same thing as before. When you get to the top, shoot the ceiling to open it up, then go through the door on the right. Keep going right until you’re in another vertical shaft. Shoot the floor to make a hole. Go down to the bottom of the hole and go left to find the power bombs. Use a power bomb right after you get them and the wall to your left will disappear. Go left to get a missile carrier. Return to the vertical shaft that led to this room and go up until you see an elevator. Now go through the door on the left and defeat all the enemies. Next go to the other end of the room and lay a power bomb. Most of the floor will disappear. See that plant that’s all the way on the left(the ones that hold you there if you fall in them)? Jump in it and you’ll fall right through it and find a power bomb. Now go back through the stone monster(near the elevator of Norfair) and go to the room with the big crack in the floor that’s also a secret passage. Go as far right as you can without laying a bomb, then use a power bomb to unveil a missile carrier. You can get it now, which is very hard, or you can come back later when you have the Spring Ball. After you’ve made your decision, go to the elevator of Norfair and enter Norfair.
Go down until you see a yellow door and lay a power bomb to open the yellow door. Go through the yellow door to get the map of Norfair. After you’ve got the map go up and go left through the door. Use the Speed Booster to go left. Don’t go through the door this time. Instead lay a power bomb and go down. Go left through the door and you’ll fall down a vertical shaft. There’s a missile carrier in the upper-left corner of this room, but you can’t get it yet. Go right and use the Speed Booster to blast through several enemies and blocks. Once you’re at the end of this room you’ll have a choice of going up, right or down. Go up, then go right through the first door you see to find a save point. Save your game, then go back to the vertical shaft. Go down to face Crocomire!
CROCOMIRE
He’s only a mini-boss, but he’s even harder than Kraid. Crocomire will often open his mouth to roar, then he’ll try to move forward. Whenever he tries to open his mouth, fire a missile, charge shot or super missile and he’ll back up. Sometimes he’ll act like he’s getting ready to charge. Whenever he does this get your super missiles ready. He’ll open his mouth to shoot fireballs at you. Fire a super missile in his mouth(easier if you’ve got a bit of distance between you and Crocomire). Keep doing until Crocomire finally falls in the lava. You will surely run out of super missiles he falls in, so just use your Charge Shot-it’s stronger than your missiles. After Crocomire falls in the lava, go left until you reach a wall of spikes. You’ll see a bony hand knock down the wall of spikes-it’s Crocomire! At least, it’s his skeleton. He’ll collapse and give you lots of power-ups, meaning he’s finally been defeated.
After Crocomire’s been defeated go left. Go to the bottom-left corner of the next room and go down to a vertical shaft. Go down until you see a door on the right. Go through the door on the right to find a missile carrier. Go back to the vertical shaft and go down through a door on the floor. This room starts out as a small tunnel, then opens up to a large chamber. In the upper-right corner of this chamber there’s a missile carrier. You’re supposed to get it with the Grappling Beam, but it’s very hard. Try using this method to get it(the missile carrier). In this room, lay a power bomb to clear out all the blocks in this area. Defeat all the enemies to clear out the area even more. Go to the far right side of the small tunnel and run to use the Speed Booster. As soon as the tunnel opens up to the large chamber, jump. While you’re still in the air, hold the D-Pad to the right. As soon as you hit the wall do the wall jump and hold to the right again. Keep doing wall jumps until you reach a platform. On this platform you’ll find the missile carrier. This may take a few tries, so don’t give up. After you get the missile carrier go back to the tunnel and do the same thing, except when you jump with the Speed Booster just keep going forward. You’ll land on a platform with a door. Go left through the door to find the Grappling Beam. Use the Grappling Beam to get to the door in the upper-right corner of this room. Keep going right until you reach a vertical shaft. Go to the top of the shaft and go right. Use the Grappling Beam to get over the water and continue right through the door. Next go up through the door. In this room go to the upper-left corner of the room using the Grappling Beam and go through the door to find a power bomb. Go back right and go to the lower-right corner to find a save point. Save if you want, then go to the upper-right corner of the room to find a door. Go through it and you’ll be in the room you fought Crocomire in. Go to the right and use the Grappling Beam to get an energy tank. After you’ve got the energy tank go through the door in the ceiling(in the center of the room). Proceed right until you’re in a vertical shaft. Go to the top of the vertical shaft and go right. Soon you’ll be in another vertical shaft. Go to the top and go left. Keep going left until you reach(surprise) another vertical shaft. Go up until you reach the second door on the right and go right. Jump across the platforms(you might want to freeze the enemies on the wall) and shoot the blue light on the barricade to get a missile carrier. After you get the missile carrier use the Grappling Beam to continue right. Go right through the door to find the Wave Beam. Go back left until you’re in the vertical shaft that led to the Wave Beam. Go to the top of the vertical shaft and go left. Use the Grappling Beam(or you can use the Ice Beam and freeze the Rippers) to get to the door in the upper-left corner. Go left to find a missile carrier. Shoot the upper-left corner of this room to find a secret passage. Go left through the secret passage and you’ll be in a room with several small platforms. The last platform, on the left, hides a missile carrier. On the far left side of the room you can get your first reserve tank. Go back to the large room that led to the two missile carriers and go through the door in the lower-left corner. In the next room go through the door in the lower-left corner. Go to the bottom of the vertical shaft and go down through the door. Go left until you’re in the vertical shaft that leads to Crocomire’s room. Go to the top of the vertical shaft and go left. Go to the upper-left corner of this room to get a missile carrier. Use a super missile on the barricade, then go left. Go up and take the elevator to exit Norfair.
Go left until you’re in the vertical shaft with the Rippers. Use your Ice Beam to freeze the Rippers and use them as platforms. When you see a yellow door, use a power bomb and go left through the door. Keep going left in the next room, but watch out for the little creatures carrying lights. Each time you touch one or shoot one the room gets a little darker. Use the Grappling Beam to continue left. Go through the door and stand on the barricade. Shoot it to make it go up, then go left to find the X-Ray Scope. Use bombs in the upper-left corner of the room, then go through the secret passage. Keep going right until you’re back in the vertical shaft with the Rippers again. Go up and use the Rippers as platforms again. Go right and you’ll be in another vertical shaft. Go to the top and take the elevator to Crateria. Go up and use a power bomb on the yellow door. Keep going up as far as you can. Now, you can go left to your ship if you’re low on supplies, or you can go right. After you’ve gone to the ship go right until you’re in a room with a missile carrier in it. Use the Grappling Beam to get it, then continue right. Now that you’re outside, you’ll notice that the acid rain isn’t falling anymore. Go down into the water to find a secret passage that leads to a missile carrier. Use your X-Ray Scope to find it. After you find it, get out of the water. Keep on using the Grappling Beam to go to the right until you see a Ripper. Now you can just get a running start and jump to the right. Go right and enter the wrecked ship.
Go right until you’re in a vertical shaft. This wrecked ship has been shut down by Phantoon, so nothing works-not even the save point. Go down to the bottom of the vertical shaft and shoot the ground to open up a secret passage. If you can’t find the secret passage, use your X-Ray Scope. Continue down through the door, then go right. Use bombs to keep going right to find the door that leads to Phantoon. Use missiles on the door, so you can save your super missiles. Go right to face Phantoon, the ghost of the wrecked ship.
PHANTOON
At first Phantoon will drop a bunch of blue fireballs. Shoot these with your gun, then collect the power-ups. Make a special effort to collect super missiles. After he’s dropped enough fireballs he’ll appear with his eye open. When he does this fire a super missile into his eye, but be careful that the fireballs don’t get in the way. Right after you hit him with a super missile, charge up your beam. Phantoon’s really angry that you hit him with a super missile and he’ll shoot lots of fireballs that are practically impossible to dodge. After your beam’s fully charged you can do a kind of Screw Attack without actually having the Screw Attack. Do a spinning jump in the air while your beam’s fully charged and you can avoid Phantoon’s fireballs completely. Repeat this process until Phantoon’s defeated. It will take four super missiles plus one missile/charge shot to defeat him. After Phantoon’s defeated the wrecked ship will not be shut down anymore.
Now that the wrecked ship isn’t shut down anymore the ship is a lot more dangerous. There are more enemies and several wires are dropping deadly sparks. Go left to get the map. Go back to the vertical shaft and use the X-Ray Scope to find three secret passages. Two lead to super missiles and one leads to a normal missile. After you’ve found all three secret passages go to the top of the vertical shaft and go up through the door. Defeat all of the enemies in this room then go through the door on the right. Shoot the robots to get them out of the way and proceed right to find a missile carrier. Go through the door on the left and destroy all of the enemies again. This time, go through the door on the left to exit the wrecked ship. Go left and use a super missile to open up a secret passage(use the X-Ray Scope if you can’t find it). Use your X-Ray Scope to find a path to a missile carrier, but be careful not to fall or you’ll lose a lot of time. Now go back through the secret passage and avoid falling. Next, use the flying platforms to find another missile carrier that’s hidden in the rock wall. Get on the highest platform and wait until you can see the rocky wall to the left, then shoot it to find the missile carrier. Now find another secret passage on the ground and go right until you’re in the wrecked ship again. As soon as you enter this room a metal door will close behind you, keeping you from exiting. Use the Grappling Beam to go right until you reach a Chozo statue. This Chozo statue isn’t holding anything, so get into its hand and curl up into a ball. The statue will come to life and take you right though the floor. When he lets you go, shoot the floor directly beneath you to open a secret passage. Turn into a ball and go right as far as you can, then lay a bomb so you can stand. Shoot the blocks so you can go through the hole on the right. Go right to find a missile carrier. After you get it, lay a power bomb. Go to the right and make any robots fall into the holes so you’ll an open area to run in. Go right as you can, then run left. Use your Speed Boosters to get those other blocks out of the way. Now use your Speed Boosters to run to the right. Right before you hit the wall on the other side press down on the D-Pad and Samus will start flashing. Get right under the shaft that leads up, then hold down . Press A, and you’ll shoot up, right through a Speed Booster block. Be careful, this technique drains your health very quickly. Go left(be careful not to fall through the floor) and you’ll find a reserve tank. Now go back down, then left to find the Gravity Suit. Continue left to exit the wrecked ship. Go back right to enter the wrecked ship. Once you’re in the vertical shaft again, go down and go through the first door on the right. Keep on going right until you’re in another vertical shaft and go up. Shoot the ceiling to open a secret passage. Go through the red door. Use the platforms and the Grappling Beam to go left until you find an energy tank. Go back right and go down through the ceiling, then go right to exit the wrecked ship.
Go right but watch out for the chute leeches(remember those? They’re from Metroid 2). Keep going right until you reach a door. Go through it, then go down through another door. In this room use your X-Ray Scope to find a secret passage. It’ll lead to a door on the left side of the room. Now take the elevator to enter Maridia.
Go through the door on the right to find a save point. If you haven’t saved recently it would be a good idea to save now. After you’ve saved go down and go through the door on the left. Continue left until you go through another door. Watch out for monsters hidden in the quicksand in this room. If they grab you they will pull you under the quicksand. Go left through the door. Now go under the water and go left to go under a wall. Next go up by jumping on the ledges. Go left and blow away a green door, then go down where it used to be. You’ll go down an elevator to a different part of Maridia. Go right until you see a block that you can use the Grappling Beam on. Use it, then get back to the platform on the left instead of going through the door on the right. Once the block disappears you’ll notice that it doesn’t come back. Jump up through the small hole where the block used to be. Use the wall jump to go up the corridor until you get to the top. Go right through the door and drop to the bottom of the vertical shaft. Go through the door on the right. Lay a power bomb to blow away the wall on the right. Don’t destroy the “enemy” in this room. Instead, let it go to the right and clear out the sand for you. Proceed right through the door. Turn into a ball and go down the hole. Go left, then follow the path to get the Spring Ball. Use the Spring Ball to get out of the hole and go back left. Once you’re in a vertical shaft go down through the floor, then go left through the door. Keep on going left until you get back to the door that leads to the elevator. Go left until you’re in a small room with a bunch of crabs. If you wait long enough you’ll notice crabs coming out of the floor. Drop through the floor and go through the door on the right to find the map. Now go left until you’ve reached a “dead-end”. Drop through the floor and you’ll be in a part of Maridia you went through early in the game. Go left and you’ll be in a glass tunnel. Use a power bomb to make the glass tunnel shatter. You can go down to save the game or you can continue up. Go up through the door. In this room you’ll notice a bunch of weeds. One of the weeds is brighter than the others. Remember this weed and go through the door on the right. Use a super missile to open the barricade, then open the door on the left. Defeat all of the enemies in this room and use the speed boosters to go left. Press down to activate your special jump. Quickly go through the door on the left and position yourself on top of the bright weed. Use your speed boosters to fly up and get a missile carrier. This is very hard to do at first, so keep trying until you get it right. Next go to the top of this room and go right. Use your X-ray Scope to find a secret passage in this room. The secret passage is on the left wall, under the door on the left. Go through it to find a super missile. Go back right and go through the door at the bottom of the room. Now go to the lower-right corner of this room and go through the wall on the right. Go through the door on the right. In this room there is an energy tank at the top of the room and a missile carrier in the wall on the right. There’s a big turtle in the center of this room that you can use to get both of the items. Go left through the door and go to the top of the room. Go up through the door and go to the left side of the room. Use the Grappling Beam to go to the right. Continue through the door on the right. Go to the top of the vertical shaft and go through the door on the ceiling. Now walk through the wall on the right to get a missile carrier. Now go back left and go up until you see a door on the left. Go through it and continue left through some fake walls as far as you can. Jump up to see another door on the left. Go through it and continue left until you reach a “dead-end”. Drop through the door to find a missile carrier and a super missile. Follow the path that you used to get here until you reached the last vertical shaft you were in(metal walls, lots of crabs). Shoot the floor in the center and go down. Next go right until you’re in a large room. Use power bombs to go down. Now you can go left to save your game, if you want. Run to the right until you’re under a metal ceiling and use your Speed Booster to go up. Get the missile carrier and go to the right to find a super missile. Go down through the floor and go as far right as you can. Shoot the floor and go down. Go to the left and allow yourself to go down through the quicksand. In this room you can find a missile carrier and a power bomb. After you’ve gotten them go through the quicksand again. Next use the same path you used last time to return to the room with the quicksand pits. Now go through the quicksand on the left. In this room you’ll find a missile carrier and a reserve tank. Do the same thing as before and return to the room with the quicksand pits. Now use your Grappling Beam to go to the upper-left corner of this room. Go up through the door and go right to face Botwoon, the mini-boss of Maridia.
BOTWOON
Botwoon is a large snake-like creature. Use super missiles on his head. Whenever he sticks his head out of one of the holes, dodge the shots he fires at you and use some super missiles. As the battle continues he’ll get faster, so be careful. Eventually you’ll defeat him and the wall to the right will explode. Continue right.
After going right for awhile you’ll come to a quicksand pit. Jump into the wall in the ball form. Go right to find an energy tank. Keep going right until you go through a door. Now you’ll be in another vertical shaft with... Metroids! No, wait a minute... they’re only mochroids. These are the space pirates’ first attempt at cloning Metroids. They can be destroyed with the Grappling Beam. Go to the top of the vertical shaft and go right. Continue right and go through the door in the lower-right corner. Go to the far right side of this room and shoot the wall on the right to find a missile carrier. Go back to the far left side of this room and drop through the spikes. Use three missiles on the door and go left to face Draygon, the boss of Maridia.
DRAYGON
Draygon will repeatedly charge straight at you from the left and right sides of the room. Whenever you can, shoot a super missile at his stomach while dodging his attacks. Beating Draygon with this method is a real pain, so try this shortcut: at the beginning of the battle use super missiles on all four of the guns on the walls so they’re sparking with electricity. Now allow Draygon to pick you up. He’ll whip you with his tail once in a while, taking you up higher and higher. Use your Grappling Beam and try to grab one of the destroyed guns with it. When you do grab one, hold on to it. This will hurt you, so make sure you have a lot of energy. This will fry Draygon pretty quickly in less than ten seconds, giving you an easy victory. Now go through the door in the lower-left corner to find the Space Jump.
Now, remember the vertical shaft that contained the Mochroids? This room had a metal door in it. Use your map of Maridia to find your way back to that room and go through the metal door, which is blinking now that you beat Draygon. Follow the path to a room that’s very close to the beginning of Maridia. In this room, use the Space Jump to find a flashing metal door. Go through it and be careful to avoid the enemies. Go to the lower-right corner of the room to find the second strongest beam in the game, the Plasma Beam. Use it along with your other beams to defeat all of the enemies in this room and go back through the door. Now you can exit Maridia using the elevator at the beginning of this zone.
Now that you have almost every item in the game, it’s time to do some item gathering in Brinstar. From the elevator that leads to Maridia, follow the path back through the wrecked ship and finally back to Brinstar.
Go through the first door on the right, then bomb the wall in the lower-right corner to get a missile carrier. This will cause a barricade to come down, so go back left through the door and re-enter the room. Use the Speed Booster to go to the right, past the barricades. Go right through the door to find a reserve tank. Now go through the tunnel below the Chozo statue to find a missile carrier. Shoot the wall to the right(you might have to use bombs) to find another missile carrier. Now go left through the door. Shoot the ceiling to reveal a secret passage. Go up and to the left to find a super missile. Step on the platform the super missile used to be on to fall down, then go left through the door. Go to the bottom of the vertical shaft and use a power bomb. Go down, then go through the door on the left. Lay a power bomb to destroy the enemies, then go left. Use your X-Ray Scope to find a hole in this room. Jump over it to get an energy tank. Now go left to find a super missile. Finally drop down the hole and go right through a door. Now you’ll see three or four little green guys called Etecoons. They’ll teach you the wall jump, which you already know. Use the space jump to leave them in the dust and go to the top of the vertical shaft. Use the Spring Ball to jump into the small hole to the right. In there you’ll find a power bomb. Now go left and you’ll be in the main vertical shaft of Brinstar. Go up and use power bombs to continue up. After you use power bombs go through the first door on the right. You can use the Speed Booster in this room but you’ll fall down a hole. Down there you’ll find a Dracola. He’ll teach you how to soar into the air with the Speed Booster(from now on I’ll just call it the Speed Booster jump), which you have to use to get out of the hole. As soon as you’re out of the hole continue right through a door. Next go down and use the Grappling Beam or the Space Jump to get a missile carrier. After you get the missile carrier use a power bomb to open up a wall to the left. Now use your X-Ray Scope to find an opening in the left wall. Go through that opening and follow the path to get a power bomb. Continue to follow the path and you’ll be back in the vertical shaft. Go to the right and use a power bomb to open the yellow door. Go right through the door and defeat the sidehoppers. Now use the Grappling Beam to get on the platform and shoot the blue light on the barricade to open the barricade(don’t worry, the Wave Beam will go right through the barricade). Now go right through the door to find an energy tank. Go back to the vertical shaft. Go down until you’re in the area where you got the Charge Shot. Use a power bomb to open the tunnel and go through it to find a door. Go through it. In the next room defeat all of the enemies on the ground, then go to the right side of the room and use the Speed Booster to go left and find an energy tank. Go back to the vertical shaft and go up through the secret passage that leads to the Charge Shot. Next go right through the door. Use the Jump Boots or the Space Jump to get to a high ledge. Go through the door on the ledge and keep going right until you get a power bomb(you may have to go through a secret passage or two). Continue right until you reach a wall. Use power bombs to open the wall and go right. You’ll be in the area where you got the Maru Mari. Go right two rooms. In this room, hidden in the ceiling, is an energy tank. After you get it go right and use power bombs to open a secret passage. Use the Speed Booster jump to go up through the small hole, then go left. In this room there is an invisible floor near the top of the room. Go left while on the invisible floor to get to a door. Proceed left through the door to find a missile carrier. Now shoot the platform that the missile carrier was sitting on until you find another missile carrier.
Now, did you get the missile carrier in Kraid’s Hideout(the area in Brinstar where you had to go through the stone monster’s mouth to get to)? If not, you can now use the Spring Ball to get it easily. Now go to the elevator that leads to Norfair. Go down the elevator to enter Norfair for the last time.
Go through the first door on the left and use the Speed Booster to get past the barricades. Use a power bomb to blow away the floor beneath you. Go down into the hole, then go left. When you go left through the door hold right on the D-Pad so you’ll stay on the small ledge. Shoot the wall to the left to unveil a missile carrier, then use the Space Jump to get it. Next go to the bottom of the vertical shaft and go right through the door. Use the Speed Booster to go right, then continue right through the door. Keep going right as far as you can and you should be in a vertical shaft. Go to the bottom, then go left through the door. This room is full of lava, but your Gravity suit will render the lava harmless. Go down into the lava, then use the Space Jump to go up. Go left through the monster’s head to find an elevator. Go left to save the game, then go down the elevator.
This area of Norfair could be called Ridley’s Hideout because of the different background music, the harder enemies and lava so hot even the Gravity suit can’t protect you from it. Go left through the door and you’ll be in a room full of lava. Space Jump to the left and lay a power bomb to unveil a Chozo statue. Turn into a ball while you’re in the Chozo’s hand and the Chozo will lower the lava. Stay in the ball form and go down through the floor. Use bombs to open a secret passage and continue right through the door. In this room, Space Jump over the floor to get a missile carrier. Now step on the floor and it will collapse(that’s why I said to use Space Jump). Next go right to face another Chozo.
This Chozo is almost the same as the one you fought to get the bombs, except he’s stronger and he has new powers. If you try to use a missile on him he’ll dodge it, and if you use a super missile he’ll catch it in the air and throw it back at you! To defeat him, charge your beam up and shoot him in his stomach. Sometimes you’ll need to Space Jump to avoid his attacks. After about fifteen charge shots you’ll defeat the Chozo. Now use a power bomb in the upper-right corner of the room(above the door) to find a super missile. Now you should be able to carry fifty super missiles. Go right through the door to get the Screw Attack.
Go up through the ceiling using the Screw Attack. Go through the second door on the right. Now use the Screw Attack and the Space Jump to go right as quickly as you can. If you don’t you’ll be buried in lava. Go right through the door and continue right until you’re in a vertical shaft and you can’t go right anymore. Go to the top of the room, but instead of going through the door, shoot the ceiling and go up. Go left, then go down through the floor until you see what looks like a small tunnel. Shoot a block on the left side of the tunnel and go left through the left side of the tunnel to find a missile carrier. When you come back to the tunnel, be careful not to fall through the collapsible floor. Make your way back to the vertical shaft(the last one you were in with the door on the right) and go through the door on the right. In this room you have to make your way to the top of the room as quickly as possible to avoid the lava. Once you get to the top of the room go through the door on the right. This next room looks like a one screen room but you can shoot the floor to open up a secret passage. Go down to the bottom of this secret passage and go left through the green door. On the way down through the secret passage you should save. Follow the path and you’ll be in a room with a bunch of dessgeegas. There’s a secret passage on the left side of the room that houses a power bomb. After you get it exit the secret passage and use a power bomb to blow away the block that is keeping you from going down. Go to the bottom of the vertical shaft and go left. To defeat the two Zebesians in this room, shoot them with super missiles when they’re a golden color. Continue left until you reach another boss door. Use three missiles on its eye and go left to face Ridley.
RIDLEY
Ridley is the toughest boss yet, and won’t be defeated easily. Use super missiles on him while you dodge his various attacks, which include: shooting fireballs at you, whipping you with his tail, bouncing on his tail and dropping you from high up in the air. If you hit Ridley with almost all of your super missiles, you should defeat him. If you do run out and he’s still there, use missiles. You can also use this trick: when Ridley’s almost been defeated(he should be red), allow him to pick you up. If he’s weak enough he should self destruct in mid-air. If he doesn’t self destruct, weaken him some more and try again. After he’s been defeated go through the door on the left to find the shattered capsule that once held the baby Metroid. Shoot the lower-right corner in this room to find an energy tank.
Make your way back to the room that looked like a one screen room and go right. Use a power bomb to destroy the creature on the wall and go through the wall where it used to be. Go down to find another energy tank. Next go to the top of this room(watch out for the rolling rocks) and go left through the door. Proceed left as far as you can, then go up. Go through the door on the right to find a missile carrier. Use a power bomb to open a secret passage to the right, then go through the secret passage. Go down through the door to find a power bomb. Now go back left as far you can like before, except when you get the choice of going left or right go left. Continue left as far as you can, then lay a power bomb to open a secret passage. Go through that secret passage to find a missile carrier. Finally, use your map to find the way back to the elevator that leads to Brinstar. Take the elevator and leave Norfair.
There’s nothing left to do in Brinstar, so find another elevator that takes you to Crateria. Now go to your ship and refill on supplies. You can also save, if you like. Space Jump up and to the right to find a door. Go right through the door to find the last power bomb. Now go back outside and Space Jump to the left until you come to a wall. Somewhere in the wall, use the screw attack to blow away part of the wall. Now go left through the door. Use the Screw Attack to continue left until you find the last Energy Tank. Use a power bomb to open a secret passage. Hurry through before the lava gets to you and continue left through the door. In this room, shoot the wall to clear out some blocks, then use your X-Ray Scope to find out where the collapsible blocks are. Stand in the middle of the blocks and you’ll slowly fall. Face to the right or left and start shooting. As soon as a hole opens up in the wall, try to get through it to get a missile carrier. Now you can get another missile carrier by shooting the wall on the opposite side and Space Jumping to it. Now go down and go through the first door on the right. Go through another door on the right, then go down the hole. Go through the second door on the left and use a power bomb to clear out the blocks. Go left to get the final missile carrier. Now you should have all the items, so get out of the hole and go back left. Use the Speed Booster and go left through another door. Go to the bottom of the vertical shaft and use missiles on the red door. Continue right and you will be in a room with a huge statue of all four bosses. Shoot each boss one at a time to open the entrance to the last level, Tourian.
You will probably want to go right and save your game in Tourian. Before you go any further, you must know how to defeat Metroids. Use the Ice Beam to freeze it, then use five missiles or one super missile. Now go left. You can forget about secret passages in Tourian, because it’s always obvious where to go. Follow the path, defeating all of the Metroids on the way, until you get to a room with two blue sidehoppers in it. Avoid them and go through the door on the left. In this room you’ll see a Chozo statue. When you touch it, it will crumble into ashes. Go left to find a lot more enemies that look the same. Continue to go left and you’ll see a blue sidehopper. Before it can attack you, a Metroid that’s much larger than the others will attack the sidehopper, sucking the life out of it! After it’s done with the sidehopper, it will attack you! It will quickly suck your energy away. When you’ve only got one hit left it will stop sucking your life away, whimper like a baby, then leave. There can only be one reason it didn’t kill you-it was the baby Metroid! Continue left and go through the first door on the left to refill your energy and missiles. Next go right and follow the path until you reach a red door. Go left through the door to face the final boss, the Mother Brain.
MOTHER BRAIN
Before you can fight the Mother Brain, you’ll have to destroy her life support system, the Zeebetites. Destroy them like you do in the original Metroid-use ten missiles. When you get to the Mother Brain break the glass that surrounds her, then use 24 missiles to finish her. She’ll explode, then sit there for a few seconds. Finally, she’ll reveal her true form and the battle will continue! Use super missiles on her head while avoiding her attacks. The closer you get to defeating her, the more dangerous her attacks will become. When you’re getting close, she’ll start shooting fire. Dodge the fire and keep attacking. When you run out of super missiles, use regular missiles. Once you’ve shot her enough, she’ll begin charging up for her ultimate attack-the brain wave. This attack is unavoidable, so there’s no point in doing anything. This attack will take away exactly three energy tanks. If you have a lot of energy, she may do this several times. When you have less than three energy tanks the Mother Brain will roar, then prepare to finish you. When she’s about to finish you off, the baby Metroid will attack her! It sucks the life out of the Mother Brain, leaving her for dead. Now the baby metroid will refill your life. Remember, the Mother Brain has died once already, so she resurrects herself immediately(how does she do that?). She’ll attack the baby Metroid with everything she’s got, and the baby Metroid will die after he refills you completely. When he dies, he’ll give you the strongest beam in the game-the Hyper Beam. Use it on the Mother Brain and she won’t stand a chance. After you defeat her, she’ll disintegrate. Now you’ll get a familiar message-a time bomb has been set! You have three minutes to get out! Make your way back to your ship as quickly as you can. There are some forks along the way, but you should have enough time to get out. Once you make it to your ship, get in it to finish the game. The ending you get depends on the time you took to complete the game.
