The L+R thing is for the Crystal Flash. The amount of bounce in the bombs depends on how long you hold down on the D-pad. Just charge, hold down and see what happens when you release.

Also, while charging your beam, if you hold L+R, hold down on the D-pad for a few seconds, your bombs will JUMP up all over the place. Not exactly sure the use of that, but it's neat to watch.
