heres a great char:
Charizard @petaya berry/charcoal
sunny day
substitute
flamethrower/fire blast
filler (perhaps dragon claw?)
anyway, the point of this set is that you need to set up sunny day (that'll protect you from water types), then use subtitute until you are at the desired health that activates his ability 'blaze' and the items, either petaya berry (raises spec. attack when Hp is low) or charcoal (raises fire moves 10% when HP is low). then a flamethrower would absolutely KILL. petaya is reccomended, but charcoal is much easier to obtain.
look at the damage formula - it will be flamethrower + STAB (50% same type attack bonus) + sunny day (50% fire bonus for five turns) + blaze (50% fire bonus when HP is low) + petaya/charcoal (50% bonus in spec. attack for petaya when hp is low, 10% fire bonus if its charcoal when hp is low). that makes a fire move of 95 base damage do 380 damage! four times as much! if you put fire blast here, the damage would be so high that few would be able to survive even one turn, but the accuracy is too low and since your charizard is on low health, accuracy is vital.

Blast Burn sucks. Even if it is strong you are giving your oppoent a free turn to attack you. Everyone thinks it's good but it's not! i tell you NOT!!
