Introduction / Basics
The Career mode in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 is much different than previous games. Instead of being given a list of goals to complete in a 2-minuite period, the game allows you to skate freeley amongst the level, with no time limit, to find goals. Just press X to talk to someone with an arrow over their head- they'll give you a goal. After you talk to a person, you can try that goal again without finding the person who told you by hitting start and then view goals.
Also, You can switch skaters at any time and still progress through the same levels. Everything you buy and unlock, including stat points, is valid for every character. So you can bust up a few levels as Bob Burnquist, skate around another as your "skinny afro boy" created skater, and go combo crazy as Chad Muska in another- it dosen't matter!
Learn These Tricks!
The following tricks are required to pass various career objectives- and are all new for THPS4.
- Spine Transfer
Hold R trigger and L trigger while riding over a half pipe. You will land on the curve of the adjacent half pipe, if applicable. This move is also useful for escaping pools, half pipes, and making transfers between close-together kick ramps.
A few of the games objectives require this trick, for example, in Kona USA, you need to perform the tricks as they are called out, over the spine.
New FlatLand Tricks
There are various new flatland tricks to learn for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4. Since they vary by character, here are a few button presses to try out of a manual, without ollieing:
X, X
X, B
X, Y
Y, Y
Y, X
Y, B
B, B
B, X
B, Y
Balance these tricks like a grind- press left and right on the analog stick to stay balanced.
Skitching
A new feature in THPS4 is the ability to hang on the back of moving objects to gain speed, or for a challenge. Press up when behind such a moving object, then balance your grip with left and right analog taps. Throughout the game, you'll skitch cars, elephants, and more.
The Levels
* College
* San Fransisco
* Alcatraz
* Kona USA
* ShipYard
* London
* Zoo
* Carnival
* Chicago
College
The college is the first level in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, and is a great introduction to some of the new additions to the game engine. For example, one objective has you skitching a car, and another has you taking advantage of the new Spine Transfer.
Objective: Get a high score
The first high score objective requires 40,000 points within 2 minuites time. Skate over to Jamie Tomas to activate this goal. Because this is the first high score objective, it's very easy for anyone who played the series before. For best results, try a few grind and flip trick lines over the bridge, and if your'e feeling advanced, manual and perform a grab trick and land in a revert in the river quarter pipe, and continue the combo if it's still under 40,000 (unlikely).
Objective: Get a Pro Score
Find Jamie Tomas again and he'll ask you to nail 75,000 points within two minuites. Take advantage of the manual (up, down), and perform flip tricks in and out of grinds. This should be fairly easy. If your'e having trouble with street tricks, hit the sewer and try some vert grabs.
Collect C-O-M-B-O
Skate up to the bum near the bridge, and he'll tell you to collect all the combo letters in one string. Start by grinding down the rail, and pick up the C. Jump off of the rail and press the grind button to land on the rail that leads to the bridge, and pick up the remaining letters. Remember to balance using left and right on the control stick!
Objectibe: Warn the Skaters
Skate up to your pal near the parking garage and he'll inform you that your buddies are about to get nailed by the cops! Follow the arrows and skate to the people with orange arrows over their heads as fast as possible- once the timer goes out, the cops caught them! There are four skaters to inform - this objective is fairly easy as long as you don't get stuck behind anything. Follow the arrow as accuratly as possible, and remember to stay in front of the cop!
Objective: Get the Pink Elephants!
Skate over to the bum near the river gaps, and talk to him. He'll tell you that there's pink elephants- everywhere! It's your job to collect twelve pink elephants in ten seconds or less- thankfully, theyr'e all close together.
- Grab the first three quickly, then begin a manual, spine transfer over the first quarter pipe, and repeat.
- Continue the combo by grinding on the logs
- The timer should be at 00:00 now, so don't loose that combo!
-The last elephant lies above the quater pipe at the end of the river; manual up to it and grab the elephant!
Objective: Transfer between the floats 10 times
Skate up to your afro-clad friend near the garbage truck, and he'll ask you to transfer between any three of the parade floats ten times. Don't worry- you can do the same transfer twice. Take advantage of the Spine Transfer move (L+R), and stay put when the floats start turning. If you fall off, make your entrance on the third float (the one that's a half pipe), and continue transfering. |
