1. Introduction
---------------
Version 1.2
---------------
Thanks to the people I've mentioned in the Conclusion section, I've
corrected some mistakes and added some extra secrets. I've also added more
character profiles and I've added a section for completing the bonus levels.
The previous version of this walkthrough was the product of a few hours of
gameplay.
---------------
Version 1
---------------
First version. This was basically a rushed job, since I've only had
the game and played it for only a few hours.
---------------
Super Smash Brothers first arrived at the store I pre-purchased it
(Stop and Save) on April 27, even though the comercial said April 26. If
you've seen the comercial (American), you'll know that many of the popular
characters from Nintendo games battle it out on a one to four player
fighting game. Finally an American Nintendo 64 game with Pokemon
characters! You only get to control two: Pikachu and a secret character,
but you'll see alot more. The game is simple: knock your enemies off any
piece of land. Your ultimate goal: to be put on the desk as the best toy.
This isn't the best storyline, but it's still a great game.
Personally, I don't really like fighting games, but with this I'll make
an exception. Maybe this is because Super Smash Brothers isn't a normal
fighting game. The objective isn't just to beat each other senseless, but
it's to knock them off the fighting arena. Your percentage points can well
excede 100, 200, even 300 percent. Once you pass the 100 mark, most of the
smash hits will knock you right out of play. After 300 percent, a normal
attack can do this.
This will be my second walkthrough I've created for gamefaqs. If you
find any errors or have any questions please contact me at
HFR360@hotmail.com, or HFR360@yahoo.com.

3. Character List
These are Smash Brother's definitions for each of the characters.
Under the part about which games the characters have appeared in, I've
created my own character profiles.
---------------
Normal
---------------
Mario
Although best known as the mustachioed plumber who battles the Turtle
Tribe with his distinct jumping action, this internationally-famous hero has
also acted as a referee, a driver, and even a doctor! He's been linked to
Princess Peach of Mushroom Kingdom for years, but to this day their true
relationship remains a mystery.
-Super Mario Bros. (NES)
-SuperMarioKart (SNES)
-Mario Kart 64 (N64)
Mario has been a trademark for Nintendo since the early '80s. I belive
he first appeared in Donkey Kong or Mario Brothers (not Super Mario
Brothers). In Donkey Kong, he either had to rescue the Princess from Donkey
Kong, or he kidnapped Donkey Kong's son (Mario was either friend or foe
depending on what you choose). Donkey Kong was originally released for
Colecovision, then Atari, and finally NES. In Mario Brothers (Arcade and
NES), Mario and/or Luigi battled it out with various sewer-dwelling
creatures in a three-layered system of pipes. After Super Mario Brothers,
Mario became Nintendos lead character. He appeared in Super Mario Brothers
2, and 3 after this. Next, Super Mario World was created for SNES. SMW 2
soon came out. After this, his name appeared on many different games
including Dr. Mario, Mario Kart, and Mario Lost in Time (I think that was
the name of it).
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong and Mario started out as arch-rivals, but they've
patched things up in recent years. These days DK spends his time searching
the jungle for bananas instead of kidnapping beautiful maidens. In the past
few years, other members of the Kong family have cashed in on DK's fame as
well, including his favorite nephew, Diddy.
-Donkey Kong (NES)
-Donkey Kong Country (SNES)
-Mario Kart 64 (N64)
Donkey Kong's first appearance was on Donkey Kong for Colecovision,
then Atari, and Nintendo. After this, Donkey Kong 3 came out (I don't know
anything about the second one). Donkey Kong later made the move to SNES as
Donkey Kong Country (1, 2,and 3), and later Mario Kart.
Link
Link is the valiant boy hero of "The Legend of Zelda" series in which
he fights against the evil Ganon to recover the Triforce. Though his tools
may change with each adventure, his strength and righteousness remain
constant. With his trusty sword and a variety of weapons, he takes
adventure head on!
-The Legend of Zelda (NES)
-The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)
-The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
The Legend of Zelda first appear on NES (one of my favorite NES games).
He came back in a sequel: Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. It also made
the move to SNES. Soon, the Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, appeared for
gameboy. Anxious gamers awaited his arrival on N64.
Samus
Samus Aran is the toughest bounty hunter in the galaxy. Using a
special suit powered by the technology of the bird people which allows her
to execute daring acrobatic feats, Samus pursues the airborne life form,
Metroid, throughout the universe.
-Metroid (NES)
-Metroid II: Return of Samus (GB)
-Super Metroid (SNES)
I'm still wondering why she hasn't appeared as the star of a N64 game
yet. This is her first appearance on a N64 game.
Yoshi
Yoshi is the friendly dinosaur of Yoshi's Island. He began as Mario's
partner, but has since built his own identity, and now appears in many
games. He uses his unique ability to turn whatever he swallows into an egg
as his foremost attack. Yoshis come in a rainbow of colors and are said to
have a high IQ from a very early age.
-Super Mario World (SNES)
-Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (SNES)
-Yoshi's Story (N64)
Yoshi is a very popular dinosaur with my sisters. Yoshi first appeared
on Super Mario World for SNES. The Yoshi kind appeared in Super Mario World
2. Yoshi's Story for N64 was used as a basis for the fighting style of
these dinosaurs.
Kirby
The 8-inch high Kirby hails from a distant, peaceful star. Like his
simplistic appearance, he is an easily-understood character. True to his
instincts, Kirby eats when he gets hungry and sleeps as soon as he grows
tired. Nevertheless, Kirby remains a formidable opponent. In addition to
his distinct flying and swallowing skills, he also has the ability to copy
enemy attacks for ever-changing action.
-Kirby's Dream Land (GB)
-Kirby's Pinball Land (GB)
-Kirby's Super Star (SNES)
I'm sorry to say that I don't know that much about Kirby. I only
bought my gameboy when Pokemon came out, and I never got the SNES game.
Fox
Following in his dead father's footsteps as the young leader of the
Star Fox Team, Fox McCloud's piloting of the super-high-performance combat
ship ARWING for the Lylatian System is still fresh in our memories. His one
weakness may be his difficulty earning the trust of his teammates.
-Star Fox (SNES)
-Star Fox 64 (N64)
Fox McCloud first appeared in Star Fox for SNES, trying to save
Corneria from the evil presence of Venoms leader, Andros. Star Fox 64 was
basically a remake of the first one for N64.
Pikachu
Pikachu
Mouse PKMN
Height 1'4"
Weight 13lbs
When several of these Pokemon gather, their electricity could cause
lightning storms.
(Pokedex excerpt)
-Pokemon (GB)
Here's one of my favorite characters. Pikachu, a little Japanese mouse
who is known for giving children seizures in Japan, appeared in the Pokemon
game, the Pokemon cartoons, and the trading card game. Just like in Japan,
Pokemon started a frenzy in America. This could possibly be another of
Nintendos trademark characters. Pikachu is in both Pokemon Red and Blue,
and will be in the future games: Pokemon Yellow (GB), Gold/Silver (GB),
Pokemon Snap (N64), and Pokemon Battle Stadium (N64). In Pokemon Red/Blue,
Pikachu is Number 025.
---------------
Secret
---------------
Jiggly Puff
The Balloon PKMN with the big, round eyes. It sings a soothing melody,
sending those that hear it to sleep. When mad, it puffs itself up. As a
Balloon PKMN, its body is light, weak, and easy to knock away.
-Pokemon (GB)
Here's what I've added from the Pokemon game:
Number 039
Jigglypuff
Balloon
Height 1'08"
Weight 12.0 lb
When its huge eyes light up, it sings a mysteriously soothing melody
that lulls its enemies to sleep.
Ness
Ness was a seemingly-average kid from Onett, but in truth, he was
destined for much more. When a strange meteorite landed near his hometown,
the little boy with psychic powers set out to save the world. Little has
been said of Ness's character, and much remains hidden.
-EarthBound (SNES)
Again, I've never played EarthBound and so I don't know too much about
Ness.
Luigi
Though often hidden in his older brother Mario's shadow, Luigi is, in
reality, very popular. Taller than Mario, Luigi also jumps higher.
Although he didn't appear in Super Mario 64, in Mario Kart 64 he performed
to the best of his ability. For one who seems to always be in the
background, he has many fans who eagerly await his appearance.
-Mario Bros. (NES)
-Super Mario Bros.2 (NES)
-Mario Kart 64 (N64)
Luigi is Mario's brother and sidekick. Mario, as the lead character in
his series, has overshadowed Luigi. Luigi appeared in many of the first
Mario games, except for Dr. Mario, Super Mario World 2 and Mario 64.
Captain Falcon
A regular pilot in the great galactic race F-ZERO Grand Prix, Captain
Falcon is skilled at collecting prize money. Much about his past remains
hidden in shadow, but it's clear that many a villain hold a powerful grudge
against him.
-F-ZERO (SNES)
-F-ZERO X (N64)
Captain Falcon first appeared in F-Zero as one of the drivers. I
still don't know much about him.

6. Pokemon
Saffron City
In Saffron City, Pokemon randomly pop out of the building. Here is
what I've seen:
Venusaur: Uses Razor Leaf to attack anyone to the left.
Charmander: Uses its Flamethrower to ignite anyone in its way.
Voltorb: Explodes.
Porygon: Appears and disappears.
Chansey: Throws an egg.
Pokeballs
Pokeballs randomly contain one of the following Pokemon
Snorelax: Falls on you.
Chansey: Throws eggs, which contain items.
Onix: Throws rocks from above where the pokeball opened.
Beedrill: Many Beedrills swarm in on the enemy.
Charizard: Flamethrower in both directions.
Hitmonlee: Jump kicks the enemy.
Starmie: Shoots a beam of light at the enemy.
Meowth: Payday: Shoots coins all over
Koffing: Uses poision gas to harm the enemy.
Clefable: Uses metronome, which copies one of the other pokemon's attacks.
Blastoise: Shoots a water beam.
Goldeen: Floops around.
Mew: Appears, Mews, then leaves.
______________________________________________________________________
7. Stage List
Hyrule Castle
Link's stage.
Yoshi's Island
Yoshi's stage. Here you'll battle 18 Yoshis.
Sector Z
Fox's stage.
Peach's Castle
Mario's stage. You'll team up with someone to battle Mario and Luigi.
Saffron City
Pikachu's stage. Look above in the Pokemon section for info on the
Pokemon here.
Congo Jungle
Donkey Kong's stage. Here you team up with three characters in order
to beat a super-sized Donkey Kong.
Dream Land
Kirby's stage. Here you'll fight many Kirbys.
Planet Zebes
Samus' stage. Watch out for the rising lava. Jump on the platforms to
escape it.
Metal Mario Stage
Fight Metal Mario. He's extremely hard to push off, and probably
requires a percentage within the 200s.
Polygon Stage
Fight a staggering amount of Polygon imitations of the characters (30
to be exact).
Final Stage
Last round. Here you'll fight a giant hand, Master Hand, which has 300
hp. Pretty unusual for this game, but anyway keep attacking it until to hp
reaches 0.
______________________________________________________________________
8. Secrets
Here's how to get the secret characters:
Jigglypuff
I think you have to beat the game with any character. I did this only
with Pikachu at the easiest level possible.
Luigi
Finish Bonus 1 Practice with the original characters, and Luigi will
challenge you.
Ness
Finish the game on normal with 3 lives, and Ness will challege you.
Make sure you defeat him.
Captain Falcon
Finish the game in under 20 minutes, at any difficulty and stock, to
fight the Capt'n.
---------------
Others
---------------
Original Mario Brother's Stage
Beat the game with all 8 characters at any level to access the Super
Mario Bros. stage, modified for fighting.
Sound Test
Complete both Bonus 1 Practice and Bonus 2 Practice with every
character to access the sound test, located in the Data files.
Item Switch
With the same character (I think) play the Vs Mode 50 times ( one of my
friends told me it was 200). With this, you can change the frequency of
your items and can turn them on and off.

9. Bonus
Thanks to some questions for the Bonus rounds, I've decided to add a
bonus section for the characters. First comes the name, then the rounds and
descriptions.
---------------
Mario
---------------
Bonus 1
Hit the first three targets, then use your Super Jump Punch to get the
next two above. Go right and to the ledge. Fire a fire ball at the target,
then jump up to the moving platform. Hit the last three targets as you go
down.
Bonus 2
Jump on the first two platforms, then down for another. Once the
platform next to you goes down, jump. Keep jumping to the next one, then
the next one. Go down and to the right. When the bottom part of the
platform goes down, jump on the next platform. Jump across when the next
platform is half-way up (Use the Super Jump Punch if you time it wrong). Go
to the next platform, then up until you reach the arrow. Jump a little to
your left twice, then use the Super Jump Punch. Climb your way to the last
platform.
---------------
Donkey Kong
---------------
Bonus 1
Hit the first two, then go left for another. Board the moving platform
for a target and jump on the platform above and to the left of it. Just
punch and you should break the target in the wall. Get the next two and try
to land on the small ledge on the moving platform. When it goes all the way
to the right, double jump for a target, then land on the platform below.
Double jump for another target, then fall down and get the last one.
Bonus 2
Get the first three, then go up the platform. Land on the horizontal
moving platform and get the two platforms above it (press down twice to get
off). Go right and down, and land on the platform. Double jump and spin
jump your way to the next platform. From there, when the platform to the
left goes down, jump to it. Get the platform above it and head down.
Double jump your way to the platform on the bottom right. Double jump and
spin jump your way to the last one.
---------------
Link
---------------
Bonus 1
Hit the first target and head right. Hit the next one through the
wall, go up, and spin jump your way to two targets located above. Spin jump
right for yet another one. Go down to where you started, then follow the
arrows up. Collect the next one. Now here's the tricky part. Stand on the
left-most ledge, throw the bomerage to the left, double and spin jump
directly up, and with any luck the bomerage will miss you and hit the
target. Now go right and down the shaft for two more. Go left, jump off
the ledge, and get the last one.
Bonus 2
Get the first four platforms, then go up for a fifth. Go left, get on
the platform, and go down. Go down to the next ledge when the brick-thing
goes to the right. Now go down and double jump to another platform. Go
back to the ledge when the brick goes to the right, then climb your way up.
Now go left to the next one, then down. Go on the platform when the brick
goes to the left, then go down. Double and spin jump your way to the next
platform. Go down and double and spin jump your way to the last one.
---------------
Samus
---------------
Bonus 1
Get the first targets, then board the moving platform for another.
Shoot the two visable ones and go left. Use your bombs from a good distance
to get the target without jumping down. Go back to the platform and when it
goes up, jump. Get the target in the air, and the ones on your way down.
Shoot for the last one.
Bonus 2
Get the first two platforms. Double jump your way to the next, and go
to the moving one below. When it goes left, jump and spin jump to the next
one. Go up and get the next two that follow the ones moving down. Now go
up and get the next one. Go right and down. I'm not sure if your supposed
to do this, but get hit by the bumpers while going left. You should roll
right under and get the next platform. Go up as far as you can, then double
and spin jump your way to the last platform. This jump is tricky and may
require more than one visit up here.
---------------
Yoshi
---------------
Bonus 1
Get the first two targets, then go up as far as you can for a target.
Go left, double jump, and throw an egg for the target. Now go down. For
the target in the wall, I think you have to use the R button, or the forward
+ A buttons. I don't know exactly what I did but it seems to work. Now go
left for a target, and keep going. On the left ledge, then throw your egg
across (throw the egg then press forward). Now go to the middle of the
ledge, jump, and throw an egg. Go left, jump, and throw another egg for the
other target. Now go right and fall down to the moving platform. From
that, fall down to the right, jump, and use your egg for the last target.
Bonus 2
Go up to the first platform. Go on the moving bricks when they recede.
Go up to the next platform, then right and follow the platforms down.
When you see the platform you have to get going down, slam on it. Next, go
to the platform to the right, then the moving ones to the left (two).
Finally, get the one to the left.
---------------
Kirby
---------------
Bonus 1
Get the first two targets, then go up for another, and right for still
another. Go all the way up and down the chute for more targets. Land on
the moving platform, fall and go left to the ledge, and get the last one
above you by jumping as far as you can and using your sword.
Bonus 2
Get the first three platforms and go left for a third. Turn into a
stone to avoid the bumpers down. Try to get on the platform that moves down
by going to the edge, drop when you see it, and turn to stone (unless you're
lucky enough to land on it). Recover quickly and float your way to the next
platform to your right. Board the moving platform and go up to another
platform. Go right and turn to stone when you see the bumper. Recover
after you pass it. Float your way up and use the sword to reach the next
platform. Now go staight down (not the angle path) and land on the little
ledge. Float and use your sword to reach the last platform.
---------------
Fox
---------------
Bonus 1
Get the first two targets, then double and super jump up for another.
Go right for another, then go on the two moving platforms above. Double
jump and fire your laser left for another target. Double jump and super
jump to the platform above the target to your left. Now fall and double
jump in the box to get another target. Drop down from the arrow and land on
the platform. From there, shoot the target to your right by timing it right
(or just keep firing). The last target requires you to fall and shoot it
just to your left (or if you can't do this, then double jump to it).
Bonus 2
Get the first two platforms, then double jump for another. Board the
moving platform that moves to the left (don't worry if you miss it, another
will take its place). Follow it up, move to the left to avoid the bumper,
then to the right. Next, get the platform below, and continue down for
another. Go back up and go back on the moving platform. Get the next
platform while avoiding the platforms, head to the right of the platform,
then board the next platform. Continue on the moving platform and get the
next platform below. Follow the moving platform to the next platform,
continue, follow the arrow up, and double and super jump your way to the
last one.
---------------
Pikachu
---------------
Bonus 1
Get the first three targets, then go to the right edge and shoot an
electric bolt for the target below. Now board the hovering platform and
climb up next to the target. Shock the target to your right and climb up.
Go down the chute (or shock it from above) for another target, then get out
by double jumping and super jumping. Jump to the next target to your left,
then fall and break the last two.
Bonus 2
Go right and get the first four platforms. Then go down and left
across the moving bridge. Go right for two more, down, and left. Get the
one that moves within the blocks that move, then go left. At the edge, then
go left, fall, and double jump. Double super jump twice (when doing the
super jump, press A again) your way up for the last two.
---------------
Luigi
---------------
Bonus 1
Break the first two, then super jump for another. Now go right and
wait until the platform is about to go down before you go down to break the
target and super jump back up to the platform. Now double jump above for
another target. Go left and break the next two targets above the moving
platform. As you're falling, break the target and super jump your way on
the platform. Go right to the moving platform, fire a fireball to hit the
target on the far right, then hit the last one.
Bonus 2
Get the first four platforms, then go down to the ledge. Jump down as
the wall recedes to another target. Then go right, double jump, and super
jump to the next two targets. Double jump to the platform to the right.
When the moving platform above is directly above you, super jump to it, and
climb it for another platform. Go back down to the platform. Then jump
down and super jump to the last platform inside.
----------------
Ness
---------------
Bonus 1
Get the first three targets, then climb up to the arrow. From there
use your up and B attack and aim it straight down into the chute for a
target. If you don't here a ding, try again. Now go left and down until
you see two more targets. Hit the first one with your B attack and the
flame from the first one will get the other target. Now go to the left
most platform. Jump to get the next target and use your up and B attack for
the one below. Go up and land on the moving platform. Now for the last
target, you can either use up and B and aim it for the target, or you can
use that attack to blast you up next to the last target.
Bonus 2
Get the first four platforms and continue down. For the fifth one,
you'll have to use you up + B attack to carry you to it. Go left for the
next two targets, then use your skill to propell you up and to the left.
Climb up to the top one while avoiding the bumpers. Now use your skill
while double jumping for another target, then go up with up and B for the
last one.
---------------
Captain Falcon
---------------
Bonus 1
Get the first three targets. Use your Falcon Punch for another, then
go up and super jump your way for another target. Go right and super jump
to the ledge above. Go left and break the targets below. When the moving
platforms goes up, go down, double jump, and super jump to board it. Now
break that target, climb the higher ledge to your right, and double jump for
another target. Now get the last one by going right, falling, and double
jumping.
Bonus 2
Go left to get the first two platforms, fall, and go right for another.
Now go right for another, double jump, and fall. Get the next two
platforms as you fall. Fall to your left and super jump to the platform.
Now as the moving platform goes towards the right, double and super jump to
the ledge on your left. Do this to the next one on your left too. Now jump
and get the next two. Go left and get the last one.

Jigglypuff

Bonus 1
Get the first three targets, then go up for another. Go to the left,
jump for the target, and float your way back up. Now fall for another
target, then keep going down for another. Jump for a target and fall to the
moving one. Now go to the moving platform above. Jump right and alternate
between jumping and pressing B for a greater distance (or just float your
way there, but you'll need the practice for Bonus 2). Get the next target,
then fall and float for the last one.
Bonus 2
Go left and board the first two platforms. Get the next two on the
escalator thing to your left. Drop down and try to get the moving platform
(you may have to wait in one of the spots where it pops up to get it).
Climb up to your right and get the next three platforms while watching out
for the bumpers (if you get hit, climb up again). Get the next one on the
bottom. Now this last one is pretty tricky. What you have to do is
alternate between jumping and punching to reach the last one. Good luck!

10. Conclusion
I would like to thank all the following people who've e-mailed me in an
attempt to help me with this FAQ:
mhart
Mhart helped add the part about getting Capt. Falcon, and how to see
Mew.
Sliver1664@aol.com
Sliver also told me how to get Capt. Falcon (I've read these e-mails on
the same day).
Mig Silva
Mig told me how to get the Item Switch (My sisters have found out about
this by chance when they played the game, but I didn't know about this until
it was mentioned).
SiF100@aol.com
SiF100 told me about the characters Ness and Luigi, and Mew from the
pokeballs ( the characters have been added before I read the e-mail, but
thank you anyway).
Albert Peyrard
Albert pointed out that I left out information in the Link profile. I
originally used the words from the actual game, but because of this, I've
added some new information.
WCWBeast@aol.com
WCWBeast's e-mail inspired me to do a section for the bonus levels.
I give my extreme gratitude to anyone who helped contribute anything to
my FAQ, even if I've already found those secrets. I would like to thank
Nintendo and HAL Laboratory Inc. for creating the game. I would also like
to thank Game Freak Inc. and Creatures Inc. for Pokemon. Last but not
least, I would like to thank my sisters, Ida and Gemma, for finding the Item
Switch secret and constanly bugging me about finding all the characters.
Of course since this is a FAQ, it is automatically protected by
international Copyright law, so please don't steal my work. You may use it,
however, if you give credit to where credit is due.
