Destroy the flying skulls. Consider using a shotgun to do this quickly, especially when playing solo. Shoot at the Occult General's head once. Repeat the process three times. Occult Generals can summon zombies and skeletons. However except for in Tower of Hellfire, each time he is wounded the enemies will disappear.
