1) Who is Xiahou Yuan?
Style name Miaocai. A Wei officer and brother to Xiahou Dun. He worked with
Cao Cao from the beginning, bearing one wing of Cao Cao's newly formed army.
Famous for his lightning quick attacks, he had a long list of accomplishments,
including defeating Ma Chao. However, at the Battle of Mt. Ding Jun, he was
drawn out by a Shu general, and killed by Huang Zhong
2) Why Should I Use Him?
Xiahou Yuan is a character whose flaws aren't very devastating, and he boasts
great Bow Attack for those who like archery.

3) Moves and Weapons
Regular Attack: Xiahou Yuan's regular attack is typical hack and slash sword
action, ending in a linear strike with his 3rd/4th weapon.
T : Wide slash.
ST : Spinning slash uppercut. Standard juggler.
SST : A forward sliding sword strike. Stuns.
SSST : Spinning sword slash that wipes out foes in front of Xiahou
Yuan. Knockback effect.
SSSST(T) : Sword uppercut. Standard juggler, press T for a followup
attack.
SSSSST(T) : Multiple sword slashes that end in a crowd-clearing attack.
Mounted Attack: Like every other mounted attack in the game(save for those
few good ones). Standard right-to-left swinging.
Dash Attack : A charging knee attack. Stuns.
Jump Attack : Xiahou Yuan swings his sword horizontally.
Musou Attack : Spinning sword slashes that end in a crowd clearing slash that
has knockback effect.
True Musou : Fire element added, plus extra sword slashes added at the
end.

Weapons are obtained randomly in each stage. The later the stage, and harder
the difficulty, the better the weapon you will receive. However, 4th weapons
must be obtained in a precise manner.
Stage: The Battle at Mt Ding Jun
Requirements: Defeat Huang Zhong after charge event.
Factoring in Xiahou Yuan's speed, the uphill struggle, and those darn archers,
this can qualify as an annoying 4th to get. Wait till the cutscene where Huang
Zhong charges down the hill occurs, then kill off the old fella. A Precious
Item report should pop up near Huang Zhong's initial location.
An easy way to complete 4th weapon quests is to have a fresh character(one
who is not leveled up) be first player, and a stronger character be second
player. It does not matter who the 4th weapon is for, or who kills the supply
captain/gets the item. The objective is what's needed to be completed.

4) Overview
Xiahou Yuan is somewhat slow, and he lacks decent 360 attacks that could've
helped him. His 6th Charge is also pathetioally weak, and to make things worse,
his 6th S gets him slaughtered on higher difficulties. To sum it up, Xiahou
Yuan is basically a slobbered mix of Xiahou Dun and Cao Cao, except he doesn't
get above average attack power, nor an awesome DEA. His dash attack is also one
of the worst in the game; it takes mad skillz to master the aiming aspect.
You best not step out that door! Everything bad said, Xiahou Yuan is a pretty
average guy. However, his Musou is pretty useful. It handles crowds rather
effectively, and the clearout hit isn't too shabby either. Xiahou Yuan's SST
and SSST are also highly useful. SST can stun a lot of people, and SSST does an
excellent frontal clearout job. Xiahou Yuan also has the 2nd best Bow Attack in
the game, so with a full Musou bar and lotsa arrows, Xiahou Yuan can pepper
incoming crowds rather easily with his Musou arrows. Xiahou Yuan's 6th S might
be crappy, but as long as you stick to a 5S attack set, you should have a lower
cooldown rate, and not be so vulnerable to attack. Xiahou Yuan's 6th charge,
despite being horribly weak, has a rather nice knockback effect, so if your
Musou bar isn't full by the 5th S, you can unload his 6th charge.
Fighting generals is a different story for Xiahou Yuan. It should relatively
be simple, because of Xiahou Yuan's Fire element on his SSSST. Juggle away,
and you should end most duels rather quickly. Also, with Xiahou Yuan's mighty
Bow Attack, you have to realize that generals, like a few on Yi Ling, He Fei
Castle, and etc., are ASKING to be shot to death. Just find a spot outside an
officer's "zone", and fire. You'd be surprised at how fast a job Fire Arrows
and a decent Huang's Bow, along with Xiahou Yuan's 4th, do to officers.
Recommended Equipment:
Speed Scroll/Red Hare Saddle
Peacock Urn
Dragon Amulet/Way of Musou/Fire Arrows
Elixir/Wind Scroll
Tortoise Amulet

5) Stage Strategy
1. The Yellow Turban Rebellion
Pretty simple. Take out all officers around your area first, then go after
Zhang Liang or Zhang Bao. Once one of those two are gone, chase down the
other. Take the opportunity to kill Zhang Jiao every chance you get before
he teleports north, for some decent powerups.
2. Raid on the Rogue Fortress
Run to either gates and look for a Lieutenant(shouldn't be hard; all other
regular troops are private-class). Kill them to open the gates, then run
in and clear out any Lt Commanders in the area. Find the Lieutenant guard-
ing the gate and take him out. Clear out any Lt Commanders in the area,
then run up the West stairs and head North past the other stairs. Jump off
the edge leading into the Northern section, then take out the sole Lt
Commander there. When the gate opens up, rush in and kill off the
Commander.
3. The Battle at Hu Lao Gate
Run down the path towards the top of Fan Shui Gate and plow through Fan
Chou and Niou Fu. Head down the stairs and clear out Hua Xiong and Xu Rong.
With Liu Bei, Gongzun Zan, Cao Cao's, and Sun Jian's forces ready to go,
advance southward. By now, Yuan Shu's dead. Either engage Lu Bu, or just
avoid him. Take out Li Meng, run through the ambush, then protect the
Assault Captain. Sometimes, the game is cheap, and a horrendous group of
archers appear on the southern wall of Hu Lao Gate. Once the gate is down,
standard buttkicking. If Li Jue and Guo Si's forces pop up, ignore them if
Yuan Shao's morale is pretty high.
4. The Battle at Guan Du
Start out by attacking Yan Liang in the South. Kill him off, then attack Wen
Chou in the North. With both gone, any threat to HQ is now gone. Now, start
attacking each compound until you find the Wu Chao supply depot. At this point,
run in and find Chun Yuqiong, whom you have the pleasure of destroying. With
the supply depot on fire, mop up any remaining troops at the compounds, then
head to Yuan Shao. If Liu Bei's still lounging around, take the chance to whack
him once. Kill Yuan Tan and Zhang He, shut off the Gate Captains, then kill
Yuan Shao.
5. The Battle at He Fei
Start out by going towards the middle and killing Zhou Tai and Cheng Pu. Ignore
Taishi Ci, Zhang Liao will take care of him. Go kill Lu Meng in the Southwest.
Head Northeast and attack Lu Xun from the rear. If Gan Ning's forces pop up,
rush over to HQ, clear out any crossbowmen, and kill Gan Ning as best as
possible. Get rid of any other subofficers in the middle of the map, then
charge for Sun Quan. If reinforcements for Wei pop up, Sun Quan will charge
for HQ to end the stage quickly, so be sure you have a reliable horse to
chase him down with. If you go into Lu Su's territory, be prepared for lotsa
archers.
6. The Battle at Mt Ding Jun
Ignore going uphill; rather, head West and attack Zhang Fei's forces. Once
you've taken him out, zoom South and run past Liu Bei. Sneak around the back
and attack Huang Zhong from the rear. Clear out the area, then wait around
until Zhao Yun pops up; crush the reinforcements, then go and shut off Liu
Bei's beloved Gate Captain. Slaughter any living crossbowmen, and send Liu
Bei out of Hanzhong.
7. The Battle of Wu Zhang Plains
Start out by helping out Sima Zhao and killing Zhang Fei. Kill off the Gate
Captain if you have difficulty, or have just laid the smackdown, then assist
Cao Hong and Xu Zhu against Ma Dai. KIll the Gate Captain if needed, then kill
the officer. There's an Imperial Seal nearby if you need it. Head South and aid
what's left of Xu Huang's and Zhen Ji's forces. Kill the Gate Captain, then
beat up on Yan Yan's forces; fortunately, there's another Imperial Seal nearby
at your disposal. Go East and try to save what's left of Zhang He's forces.
Work your way through the sea of green and kill Guan Xing and Guan Ping. If the
catapults are currently not firing, go into the Shu HQ and kill Jiang Wei.
Run past Huang Quan and the ambush, then shut off the Gate Captains in the
Southeast. Attack Zhang Yi and Zhang Bao from the rear ASAP to disable the
crossbowmen, then whack up Wei Yan. Head back to the Shu HQ and work your way
through Huang Quan and Huang Zhong. Clear out the troops guarding the path to
Zhuge Liang, then attack him when he charges out. If you got some arrows, feel
free to pelt Zhuge a few times. If you don't like the troops bothering you,
kill the Gate Captain behind Zhuge Liang.

7) Super Duper Secret Stuff
There's a reason this wasn't on the contents.
Every family has a rather crappy guy no one likes or wants. The Liu had Liu Chan.
The Sun had Sun Quan(which they castrated to prevent production of offspring under
his genetics... it also explains his high pitched voice), and the Cao/Xiahou have
Xiahou Yuan. I mean, look at him! Years of neglect, and diverted attention on his
brother Xiahou Dun and cousin Cao Cao have left him lonely and depressed! So
please, when you consider neglecting a cousin, relative, or sibling, think of poor
Xiahou Yuan.
