whoops! i forgot to mention that the egg will always be the lowest evolution of the female pokemon - magby is the lowest of the magmars, so the egg'll hatch out to be a magby, get it? magby evolves into magmar by happiness.
the baby pokemon:
elekid
magby
smoochum (a jynx is always female so you'll have to cross breed with anything that has jynx's symbol, like electabuzz or abra or if worst comes to worst, breed with ditto)
Igglybuff
cleffa
and breeding with ditto often ends up with terribly weak pokemon so only breed with ditto if you know you're not going to use that pokemon.
some pokemon HAVE to breed with ditto to end up with an egg of their type - the all males.
hitmonchan
hitmonlee
hitmontop
nidoran male
nidorino
Nidoking
i think that's all...

You know, the type that the egg turns out to be will always be the type of the female. So your "Breed a clefairy with snubbull to get another snubbull" is inaccurate if i have a female clefairy and a male snubbul. its the same with venonat and pinsir. whichever one was female, thats what the type of the youngster is going to be.
Does that make males useless? Certainly not! sometimes, males can pass down certain moves to the egg i.e. if you wanted to have a skarmory with drill peck, breed a bird-like pokemon with drill peck (either dodrio or fearow) that is male with a female skarmory.
certain cross-breeding is impossible eg. girafarig with a butterfree. so the pokemon have preset knowledge of what they can breed with. the largest "egg group" is the feild egg group: it includes any four legged pokemon (wierd, you can breed male stantler that has hypnosis with female vulpix to get a vulpix with hypnosis)
then there are many other egg groups. to determine whether or not two pokemon can breed in Gold/Silver/Crystal just press A on them while they are in the daycare and if they seem at least moderately attracted to each other then they can breed. Have fun!
and no, you cannot breed just any move onto any pokemon. so you cannot get a surfing pikachu through BREEDING.
